This project is fun for kids and adults alike! Pine cones are dipped into paint and allowed to dry. Once dry the pine cones look like porcelain flowers. The pine cones can be used as accent pieces to other projects or be the center piece themselves.
Pinecones are free which and can be found just about anywhere. You do have to plan in advance for this project because you have to collect the pine cones. Collect as many pine cones as you need. You can collect more than you need and keep the excess in storage containers for later DIY projects.
So, let’s begin!
Step 1: Make sure all pine cones are free from debris and dust. You can simply remove any surface dust by shaking and wiping the pine cones.
Step 2: Prepare your surface. Cover the surface of your table or floor with plastic painters tarp or anything similar. A shower curtain from the dollar store is perfect for this type of project.
Step 3: Take a wire clothes hanger and bend it to resemble a hook. Hook a portion of the pine cone on the hook.
Step 4: Dip the pine cone in paint. Allow any excess to run off the pine cone. You can dip again for a thicker coating of paint but just be sure you don’t make the coats to thick because it will take for ever to dry.
For an added flare, dip some pine cones in white paint and others in tan or off white. Sprinkle some pine cones with white finely milled glitter. This will give the illusion of snow or ice crystals. Whatever you do have fun with this project. You will certainly enjoy your porcelain flowers once this DIY project is complete.
